在養殖過程中進行魚苗篩選具有以下的優點:

1.避免體型差異過大導致殘食。

2.降低放養密度促進成長。

3.減少魚苗因攝食強度不一造成體型參差過大。

4.篩選分別後體型較大之魚苗可先行放流，體型較小者可持續蓄養至體型較大後放流。

在篩選魚苗時會利用不同尺寸之篩網，包含6分、8分、1吋等。
