廣泛分佈於印度及西太平洋海域，棲息於潮間帶至水深50公尺處，因具潛沙習性，沙泥底常見其蹤跡，產卵季節約在每年的3-10月，為澎湖著名食用性蟹類。

Distributes over Indo-western pacific ocean. Inhabits between intertidal and infralittoral zone. Most of the time the crabs bury under sand or mud. The breeding seasons are during March to October. The species is commercially important in Penghu.
